Debat-Ponsan-matin-LouvreCatherine de Medici gazing at Protestants massacred St-horz

A marriage of truce between Princess Margaret of France and King of Navarre (Henry IV, King of France) turned into the Game of Thrones Affair – we call the Bartholomew’s Day Massacre.

George R. R. Martin based his series on the War of the Roses, but I see a lot of Catherine de’ Medici (the Queen Mother) in Cersei Lannister’s character. In the picture above the Queen Mother Catherine Medici surveys the aftermath of the massacre. Catholics backstabbed the Protestants with a claim of false truce.

Alexandre Dumas depicts this period of time in his novel, La Reine Margot (Queen Margot). You need to read newer translations to fully enjoy the novel in English.

I plan to add a wedding scene to one of my chapters and so a better job of showing and not telling in the more historical chapter that follows.
