Lessons from a Lifetime of Writing A Novelist Looks at His Craft

David Morrell says first person narrative is great for short stories but advises against using first person for a novel. I wrote my book in, first person and I see his point. Some of my chapters I love, but the voice is tough to keep. When I see something in real life, I don’t have a voice in my head saying ‘I see” and I don’t often describe things to myself–I just see.

I’m using a slight cheat, in this chapter, I’m adding another plotline to. First person narrative is great when it works, but sometimes it hurts.

Morrell’s book, ‘Lessons from a Lifetime of Writing: A Novelist Looks at His Craftis one I recommend.
