I’m almost done with my book. Self-publishing is easy but I prefer putting out the best book I can. The 15% commission isn’t a big deal if an agent adds value and sales. Two agents look like great matches for me, but many agents leave me grasping for what they want.
The commercial fiction genre makes me want to laugh. Commerce is a financial term. What sells today may not sell tomorrow. My book will market to people who watch the Big Bang Theory and still read. If an agent says what they watch or read—I can guess a preference.
I wish all agents had a geek and prude rating. My use of a fertility cult came due to literary reasons. Sex is a side effect. Researching literary agents has put me in a bad mood. Agent interviews offer some help but agencies need to improve the info on their web sites.
